When Moving Fast Breaks People, Not Things, We Need Another Type of Tech Product Thought Leaders

The other day I saw a post of a product management thought leader saying she wakes up every day to think about the cadence of product discovery.

Months before I had read a post from another dishing out ‘tough love’ to product managers; implying that, in the mass layoffs happening in the US, some were let go because they failed to make themselves important to the CEO.

Last year, another key thought leader expressed surprise at a report that ranked product managers as the number one job people want to quit.

The first shows passion for a process that would hardly make me want to wake up every day, despite being very important and interesting; the other two express some level of being out of touch with the practitioners, ranging from cluelessness to gaslighting.

I respect these thought leaders, i.e. if you ask me for recommendations of books to read if you are transitioning into product management, most certainly I recommend their books.

Technically, in terms of letting you in the horror stories of product management, and ways to try to evade them, they are your go-to people. If you want to be technically sound, you better know what they say about the best processes for product…
